The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is asking the Department of Public Works and Highways and Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya to fast-track and include in their priority list of projects the coastal road project that will traverse Barangays Punta-Taytay,Singcang-Airport, 35, 2, 3, 1, Banago and the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City.

Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito said the proposed coastal road project will change the landscape of the city and tremendously help reduce the volume of traffic in major streets.

The resolution was authored by Distrito and co-authored by Councilors Cindy Rojas, Em Ang, Dindo Ramos, Renecito Novero and Bart Orola.

Earlier, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia also welcomed the bill filed by Gasataya and Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) before the House of Representatives for the proposed construction of a coastal road traversing the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Victorias and the municipality of E.B. Magalona in Negros Occidental.

Distrito said the SP also approved a P2 million budget for the city’s plan to develop the Alangilan Eco-Park.

The City Development Council earlier passed Board Resolution No. 11approving the master plan of Alangilan Nature’s Park for agri-tourism.

Distrito said the budget will be used for the construction of a pavilion, cottages, swimming pool, botanical and medicinal garden inside the eco-park.

The project is envisioned to be a major national campsite for various student and youth groups like Boy Scout and Girl Scout, Red Cross Youth, among others, he said.

Meanwhile, the CDC also passed Board Resolution No. 8 endorsing the bills filed by former Bacolod Rep. and now Mayor Evelio Leonardia for the conversion of local roads to national roads.

Distrito said the SP also approved a resolution requesting Gasataya to declare Magsaysay Street, Hernaez Street (Libertad), BS Aquino Drive, Gonzaga Street and Lopez Jaena Street as national roads so that the DPWH, which has a much bigger budget, will undertake the repair and rehabilitation of these roads with drainage and shouldering components.

The SP also approved a resolution for the widening of tourism roads from Burgos Street going to Campuestohan and Bacolod-Alijis-Murcia Road going to Mambucal, he said.*
