It also officially announced its acceptance of a merger with the United Negros Alliance for next year’s polls.

Congressman Alfredo “Albee” Benitez and Vice Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson made the announcement in a press conference yesterday afternoon in Bacolod.

Both confirmed that there will also be an announcement together with the UNEgA before the filing of the candidacy of the of the official tandem for governor and vice governor.

He said whoever will be fielded by UNEgA to team up with him as vice-governor will be accepted.

Earlier, former 4th District Congressman Jeffrey Ferrer’s name was mentioned as the probable candidate for vice governor of UNEgA in the merger.

“We would like to announce that we are officially accepting the merger with the United Negros Alliance and Vice Governor Lacson will be the official candidate for governor,” Benitez said.

On his part, Lacson said that as of the moment the merger is for the governor and vice governor posts pending a meeting and agreement with UNEgA as far as the other positions are concerned, such as for the posts of provincial board members, congressmen, mayors and vice mayors.

Benitez, who is graduating next year and will not run for any post, made an assurance that he will be around to help Lacson in the coming election.

He said, the merger is designed to strike out politics in efforts to develop Negros.

Benitez said politics has been noted to be a hindrance in the development of the province.

Lacson meanwhile said they have so far eight mayors who will be running in the 2019 elections, mostly re-electionists.

They are, he said Mayors Neil Lizares of Talisay, Mark Golez of Silay, Marvin Malacon of EB Magalona, Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran, Enrique Miravalles of Valladolid, John Rey Tabujara of Cauayan, Jerry Rojas of Murcua, and Frederick Palanca of Victorias City.

For Congress, he said Love Negros will field incumbent San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo Vallmayor for 1st District, Dr. Francisco Benitez for 3rd District, Himamaylan Mayor Agustin Bascon for 5th District, and for the 6th District former vice governor Lim-ao Alvarez.* (NDB)
