Albee eyes NOCHP to generate income

Former Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who is now the consultant on economic affairs of the provincial government of Negros Occidental, is eyeing to make the Negros Occidental Health Care Program revenue generating, without sacrificing its services and affordability.

The NOCHP, that was launched in 2010 to provide health insurance to indigent families in Negros Occidental, has more than 300,000 member-families in the province.

Visayan bloc reg’l party eyed

MANILA – Six years after it was formed in 2013, the Visayan bloc, with former Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Benitez among the lead convenors, is now being studied for transformation into a regional political party.

The Visayan bloc, which has a multi-party membership, is now composed of 44 solons from the Visayas, with Antique Rep. Loren Legarda added to the list.

THIRD District Rep. Jose Franciso Benitez is pushing for term extension of barangay officials and the postponement of the barangay elections.

Benitez said that the three year term of the barangay officials is too short to prove themselves to the people who voted for them especially that they are at the forefront of government services. "Maybe four to five years would be ideal. It would help the people and the community to heal after the elections," Benitez said.

Benitez who is a neophyte congressman has already filed six measures in the 18th Congress, mostly related to Urban Development and Housing which was previously chaired by elder brother and former Third District congressman Alfredo Benitez.

IRR on creation of Dept. of Human Settlements and Urban Development signed

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 11201 that will set into motion the creation of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) was signed Friday.

The law, signed by President Duterte last February 14, primarily consolidates the functions of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) to the Department.

Former Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said that globally countries are moving towards renewable energy to save the planet from climate change, but there are realities that must be faced.

“If there is available geothermal power that would be the very best source of energy, since wind, solar, all of these other renewable energies are not qualified for base load,” said Benitez, in an interview at the inauguration of the Negros Occidental provincial government officials at the Capitol grounds Saturday.

Visayan bloc choices: Velasco, Romualdez

The 45-strong Visayan bloc solons narrowed down their choice for House speakership between Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and incoming Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.

Rep. Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod partylist), a member of the Visayan bloc, yesterday said that they have until July 15 to decide whom to support between Velasco and Romualdez, who has yet to join their bloc.

Outgoing Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd district), who is the Visayan bloc convenor, earlier disclosed that they agreed to vote for a common candidate for speaker in the 18th Congress,who will pursue the legislative agenda for the Visayas region and can work harmoniously with the Duterte administration.

VICTORIAS CITY – The rendering of services to Negrenses is not yet over for Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, whose term as congressman of the 3rd district of Negros Occidental, ends Sunday.
