Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez sought Tuesday the immediate bidding out of power distribution utilities’ power demands in the wake of impending power crisis.

He made the call after the Supreme Court ruled that all power supply agreements (PSAs) of power utilities shall be subjected to a mandatory competitive selection process (CSP).

Lawmakers on Thursday sought a corruption-free audit of the structural integrity of various structures to ensure public safety in anticipation of strong earthquakes.

Reps. Alfredo Benitez of Negros Occidental and Winston Castelo of Quezon City made the call following reports that some high-rise buildings used “ampaw” or substandard construction materials, especially steel bars.

President Rodrigo Duterte Thursday night assured Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) of a slot in the 2022 senatorial race, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday.

The president “advised Cong Albee to strengthen his leadership in the island,” added Lacson, who is running for governor of Negros Occidental in the May 13 polls.

Benitez foresees class action suit vs. Manila Water

Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said consumers should file a class action suit against water concessionaire Manila Water if it fails to duly compensate them for their woes amid the ongoing water crisis.

“The way I see it, there is negligence on the part of Manila Water, so there should be proper compensation for the customers,” Benitez said during an impromptu press conference at the House of Representatives.

MANILA — Lawmakers at the House of Representatives on Monday said they are mulling the filing of a class suit against Manila Water for its alleged “negligence”, which they described as the root cause of the week-long water crisis that affected around 1.2 million households in the east zone of Metro Manila.

Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, who chairs the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development, said Manila Water should, at the very least, compensate consumers for failing to provide 24/7 water service in accordance with its concession agreements.

PWU campus to rise in Silay

The Philippine Women’s University will soon have a new home in Silay City, Negros Occidental, one of its major development programs as it celebrates its 100th year this 2019.

The new campus will rise on a three-hectare lot in San Diego Dos, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, donated by the family of the late Pablo Jison, PWU president, Dr. Jose Francisco B. Benitez, said yesterday.

In a deed of donation signing ceremony at the Silay City Civic Center Saturday, the PWU president thanked the family of the late Pablo Jison for their generosity and for their trust, as he committed to continue the legacy of educational transformation that has been the mission of PWU since 1919.

THE Pablo Jison family of Silay City, headed by matriarch Elisa, donated a three-hectare property in a premier village in Barangay E. Lopez for the expansion initiatives of the Philippine Women's University (PWU) owned and run by the Benitez family, under the presidency of Dr. Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez, who is running for congressman of the third district of Negros Occidental.

The donor, Elisa Jison, and PWU president Kiko, signed the deed of donation as witnessed by Representative Alfredo Abelardo "Albee" Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental), Silay City Mayor Mark Andrew Golez, the Jison family, and the board of trustees and executives of PWU.
