Bacolod City—A 13,016-ha integrated tourism complex set to rise in Silay City is seen to help position Negros Island as an emerging tourism hub.
This, according to Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, was the vision for the complex, which will include the P600-million Magikland theme park, hotels, as well as a commercial and lifestyle center, and which is expected to generate quality jobs for the provinces.

"The anti-drug campaign is hard to start with but it would be harder if it will not start with the barangays," Benitez said.

Two senatorial aspirants with roots in Negros Occidental made it to the top 12 in the latest Pulse Asia survey for the May 2019 senatorial elections, but three congressmen from the province did not make it.
The two whose mothers are from Negros Occidental who made it to the top 12 were Senator Grace Poe who was ranked No. 1, and former Senator Sergio “Serge” Osmeña ranked 6-13.

International factors caused the Philippines’ 5.2 percent inflation surge and it looks like there is no end in sight, it could get worse, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said Saturday.
The oil-producing countries are producing less and the peso is losing ground because there is more demand for the dollar, Benitez said.

SIXTEEN 40-footer container trucks quietly arrived in Silay City over the weekend, passing through the coastal roads of northern Negros.
The container trucks were loaded on two barges that left Cebu in two separate days, carrying the four of the 11 rides that will be featured in Magikland, the most awaited theme park in Negros Island.

NEGROS Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez cautioned the government to closely monitor and have mitigating measures to cushion the rising inflation in the country.
"Inflation is one thing that we have to closely monitor. We have to prepare ourselves. It is not necessarily internal factor because external factors affect our inflation," Benitez said.

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has designated a 13,016-hectare integrated tourism complex site in Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City, that will include the P600M Magikland theme park, as a Tourism Enterprise Zone (TEZ), Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) announced Saturday.
The TIEZA designation was granted to Aton Land and Leisure (ALL) owned by the family of Benitez that is developing the integrated tourism complex.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said he is optimistic the proposed creation of the Negrosanon Federated Region contained in the Consultative Committee’s draft Federal Constitution will be retained when President Rodrigo Duterte sends it to Congress for review.
Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) yesterday said he has already began spearheading a campaign among his colleagues in Congress, which includes the Visayan bloc, to support the creation of the NFR.
