Kapitan Ramon moves on

Almost three years after former barangay chairman Noel Ayalin was meted 220 years imprisonment for the massacre of barangay officials in Brgy. Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, on March 6, 2011, the survivors and families of the victims have moved on, after attaining justice, incumbent barangay captain Ramon Celebre said yesterday.

Celebre, who gave the welcome remarks during the distribution ofthe Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Care cards to more than 100 recipients in Brgy. Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, yesterday, said they are planning to put up a marker at the massacre site.

Representatives Greg Gasataya of Bacolod City, Alfredo Albee Benitez of the 3rd District and Alejandro Mirasol of the 5th district of Negros Occidental, has filed House Bill 7081 converting the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, with satellite campuses in Talisay and Bacolod City, as well as in the Municipality of Binalbagan, into a state university known as the Carlos Hilado Memorial State University.

Lobby urged for 1-Negros federal state

The lone Negrenseon the 19-member committee created by President Rodrigo Duterteto review the 1987 Constitution yesterday said he will work hard to ensure that Negros Occidental and Oriental remain under one state in the country's shift towards federalism.

Arthur Aguilar said it is important that Negrenses from all sectors make their positions heard on the two Negros provinces staying together under one state. They should lobby for what they believe is best, he said.

Congress okays new department to integrate housing functions

Transforming thousands of hectares of idle government land into socialized housing projects for the homeless will be one of the priority tasks of the proposed Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez revealed that the DHSUD is also expected to adopt the on-side, in-city and near-city resettlement program for informal settler families which was endorsed by Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo (Albee) Benitez, chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development.

House OKs creation of housing department

The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading the bill creating the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to govern the country’s basic housing needs.

House Bill No. 6775 was passed on Tuesday with 193 votes in its favor. Six members of the Makabayan bloc cast votes against it.

The proposed department would take over the functions of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) and act as the primary agency responsible for the management of housing, human settlements and urban development.

‘Super’ housing agency gets nod of lawmakers

THE House of Representatives approved the creation of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to be responsible for providing adequate and responsible housing.

Voting 193 to 6, lawmakers passed House Bill 6775, which would merge the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLRB) to form the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
