Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) yesterday said he will hold those accountable for the death of an overseas Filipino worker from his district.
Josie Perez Lloren, 40, of Murcia, Negros Occidental, died at a Caloocan hospital on February 9, two weeks after her return from Kuwait.

House Bill No. 7081 seeking the conversion of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College into a state university, was filed in Congress by three congressman from Negros Occidental on January 31.
The bill introduced by Reps. Greg Gasataya, Alfredo Benitez and Alejandro Mirasol of Bacolod, Neg. Occ. 3rd and 5th Districts, respectively, states that CHMSC in Talisay City, formerly known as Paglaum State College, has three satellite campuses in Brgy. Alijis and Fortune Town, Bacolod City and in Binalbagan.
It said CHMSC is a public, state-owned college oriented towards excellence, competence, and educational leadership in science and technology.

Almost three years after former barangay chairman Noel Ayalin was meted 220 years imprisonment for the massacre of barangay officials in Brgy. Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, on March 6, 2011, the survivors and families of the victims have moved on, after attaining justice, incumbent barangay captain Ramon Celebre said yesterday.
Celebre, who gave the welcome remarks during the distribution ofthe Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Care cards to more than 100 recipients in Brgy. Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, yesterday, said they are planning to put up a marker at the massacre site.

The lone Negrenseon the 19-member committee created by President Rodrigo Duterteto review the 1987 Constitution yesterday said he will work hard to ensure that Negros Occidental and Oriental remain under one state in the country's shift towards federalism.
Arthur Aguilar said it is important that Negrenses from all sectors make their positions heard on the two Negros provinces staying together under one state. They should lobby for what they believe is best, he said.

Occ., 3 rd District) led the presentation and consultation on the Malogo River Irrigation Program of the National Irrigation Administration, with stakeholders in the cities of Victorias and Silay, and the municipality of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental Monday, a press release from his office said.
He cited the five-point benefits of irrigation, namely to boost agricultural productivity, for flood mitigation, a source of potable water, as power component, and for eco-tourism.

The Habitat for Humanity Philippines Foundation Inc. is building 546 earthquake and storm-proof homes for informal settlers in Brgy. E Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental, that are being targeted to be completed in 36 months.
Habitat for Humanity Asia-Pacific Area Vice-President, Rick Hathaway, said yesterday that they will use an engineered bamboo-design, which is earthquake resilient, and could survive anything that can happen in the community.
Hathaway, who led the groundbreaking yesterday of the multi-million disaster resilient housing project at the Bonbon Phase 3 resettlement site in Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, said the construction of the 546 homes, will be done in phases, with 86 housing units to be initially constructed.
The groundbreaking was also attended by local government officials led by Silay Mayor Mark Golez. Dominique “Nikki” Lopez-Benitez represented her husband, Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District), who chairs the House committee on Housing and Urban Development.
