Vice Gov. Lacson Hints on 2019 Poll Scenario

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson yesterday hinted on the more likely political scenario in the province in 2019.

Lacson, acknowledged as the “strongest successor” for governor in 2019, said Friday’s meeting between him and 3rd District Congressman Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez, along with other Love Negros (LN) officials, was a positive one.

‘SIDA Law Designed to Support Farms Structures’

The Sugarcane Industry Development Act (SIDA) is the first law designed to support the farm structure to become efficient. It was created to overcome the challenges of sugar prices in worst situations, said Congressman Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, 3rd District of Negros Occidental at the Sugar Summit of Mill District Development Council held at the Natures Village Resort and Restaurant in Talisay City on Wednesday, July 26. Theme was “The Strategic Role of Mill District Development Councils in Sugarcane Industry Development”.

Sugar Industry Summit Held

In a historic move to further strengthen the Philippine Sugar Industry, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) held the Sugar Industry Summit July 25 to 26, 2017 at Nature’s Village Resort, Talisay City, Negros Occidental. Carrying the theme “The Strategic Role of Mill District Development Councils (MDDcs) in Sugar Industry Development,” the summit will specifically engage a key industry partner, the MDDCs. The Summit seeks to build consensus on how the MDDCs could perform their strategic role in the implementation of projects under the R.A. No. 10659 of the “Sugar Industry Development Act of 2015” (SIDA).

Reaching Out to Informal Settler Families in Metro 3rd

Focusing on the other “H” in his  METRO 3RD ASENSO –IHELP (infrastructure-health & housing-education & environment-livelihood-policy) PROGRAM, Congressman Alfredo Benitez  initiated an inventory of informal settler families (ISF) and a review of the various housing programs of local government units in the Third District.

Marie June Pavillar Castro, women’s rights advocate, civic leader and former Silay City councilor who was  tasked as District Coordinator for Housing Concerns DCHC), said the initial inventory recorded close to 50,000 informal settler families in Victorias, EB Magalona, Silay, Talisay and Murcia.  As she works closely with the LGUs to assist fast-tracking their housing programs and other related concerns, the listing and mapping of ISFs continue to generate an accurate data-baseline for appropriate interventions and provide relevant inputs to policy initiatives to address the housing backlog and other issues.

NOCHP Enrollment in 3rd District Intensifies

The Third District of Negros Occidental continues to intensify its campaign to reach more families to enroll in the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program (NOCHP) to avail of free medical services in times of need.


Congressman Alfredo Benitez continues to mobilize his District Office and satellite offices in cities of Victorias, Silay , Talisay and municipalities of Murcia and EB Magalona to reach far-flung upland and coastal communities, educating families of the benefits of the program.

Reclamation Project to Boost Talisay

Asenso Metro 3rd Burial Assistance Program Launched

The Asenso Metro 3rd Burial Assistance Program provides access to funeral and burial services to qualified residents of the Third District of Negros Occidental. The Program brings together the resources and efforts of the Local Government Units (LGUs) of the Third District with the leadership of Congressman Alfredo Benitez, formalizing the district-wide implementation with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The Program is open to all bona-fide residents of the cities of Talisay, Silay and Victorias , and the municipalities of E.B. Magalona and Murcia. The claimant is the resident who requests for burial assistance for a deceased immediate family member. The beneficiary who is the deceased must also be a bona-fide resident of the Third District. It will start today with the signing of the MOU and formal launching. The MOU sets the duration of the program for two years, July 2017 to July 2019.

Talisay, Murcia Win Albee Cup Volley Titles

Top-ranked Talisay City men’s spikers and Murcia’s volleybelles won the titles of Albee Cup volleyball tournament on Sunday in Victorias City.

The Talisaynons swept EB Magalona in three sets with 25-17, 25-17, 25-14; while Murcia placed third with a 31-29, 25-12 victory over Victorias.

Murcia lady spikers snatched the title via a 27-25, 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13 hard fought battle going to the distance. Silay City grabbed the third spot with a 25-14, 25-10 domination of Victorias.
