Vice Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson, Negros Occidental unity ticket gubernatorial bet, yesterday vowed to prove to all those who sacrificed to make a United Negros Alliance-Love Negros merger a reality,that it was the right decision for the province.

Negros Oriental political leaders formally announced in Dumaguete City Tuesday that they will field a united ticket under the One Vision, One Voice, One Visayas movement.

But Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), who acted as “peacemaker” among the members of the political parties, admitted that they expect conflicts to still persist among the mayors, vice mayors, and even board members.

BACOLOD City – Top officials from two local political groups in Negros Occidental have announced a unified ticket for the gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial race next year.

Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson of Love Negros and 4th District representative Jeffrey Ferrer of United Negros Alliance (UNEGA) will be running mates – the former for governor and the latter for vice governor.

This was confirmed by Love Negros’ 3rd District representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and UNEGA’s Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday at the Nature’s Hotel and Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Political leaders in the Visayas last week formed a coalition that will represent their scattered localities in order to press government for an equitable share of funding and resources to boost the region’s economy.

Backed by the Visayas Bloc in the House of Representatives, One Visayas was formally organized with ten provincial governors declaring active participation in the group.

At least 16 governors are embracing the One Visayas concept to create economic cooperation and promote the development of the three regions of the Visayas,” said Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez, co-convenor of the Visayan Bloc.

Love Negros yesterday officially announced its fielding of Vice Gov. Eugenio “Bong” Lacson as its candidate for governor of Negros Occidental in 2019, and its acceptance of a merger with the United Negros Alliance.

Lacson and Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez made the announcement at a press conference yesterday afternoon shortly after a Love Negros meeting in Bacolod City attended by its eight mayors and three would-be mayors.

During a press conference yesterday afternoon, Lacson said his local political coalition, Love Negros, formally agreed to his nomination following meetings last week.

Meanwhile, a figure previously mentioned as a possible candidate for governor and senator, Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez, announced his retirement from politics, saying, he plans to serve as Lacson’s “sidekick.”

“United we are a force to reckon with,” Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) told officials of the three Visayan regions gathered for the launching of “One Visayas” last night.

In his keynote speech at the gathering of 194 political leaders from Western, Central and Eastern Visayas at the Shangri-La at the Forth in Metro Manila, Benitez presented the “One Visayas: Region of Economic Cooperation and Political Unity.”
